Il foglio fa parte del Volume 8 del lascito dell'artista, custodito dalla Biblioteca Statale ed Universitaria della Bassa Sassonia (Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek) a Göttingen (Germania) nel Reparto dei Manoscritti e Stampe Rare (Abteilung fuer Handschriften und seltene Drucke), codice (Signatur): gr. 2/4 Cod. Ms. hist. nat. 94.

Nella tavola il giglio è ritratto nella prima fase di accrescimento, prima della emissione dello scapo floreale, ma nel dipinto è presente anche un dettaglio in forma di una sezione della pianta con lo scapo floreale. Di particolare interesse è la dettagliata rappresentazione sia del bulbo che delle radici. La rappresentazione della sezione conferma l'approccio investigativo scientifico di Franz A. Bauer.

Questa opera viene qui pubblicata a colori in assoluto per la prima volta grazie alla cortese collaborazione della curatrice delle stampe della biblioteca di Göttingen, Signora Bärbel Mund, che ha provveduto a selezionarla per questa pubblicazione tra i fogli privi di denominazione del suddetto Volume 8.

In the plate by Franz Andreas Bauer, a water colour painting on paper, dimensions 25 x 36,5 cm, a lily is represented, prossibly Lilium candidum. The folio is part of Volume 8 of the Bauer legacy, in custody at The State- and University Library of Lower Saxony (Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek) in Göttingen (Germany) in the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books (Abteilung fuer Handschriften und seltene Drucke), code (Signatur): gr. 2/4 Cod. The painting shows the lily in its first phase of development, before the emission of the flower, however a section of the plant, including the flower stalk, is also present. Of particular interest is the detailed representation of the bulb and of the roots. The picture of the plant section confirms the scientific investigative approach of Franz A. Bauer.

This work is published here in colour for the first time ever thanks to the obliging collaboration of the curator of the prints in the library in Göttingen, Mrs. Bärbel Mund, who chose the folio for this publication from the untitled pages of the aforementioned Volume 8.
